SA Wingshooters welcomes you! Hartlik welkom by SA Vlugskuts! Waidmannsheil!

This is the official home page of the Southern African Wingshooters Association -- the only national bird hunting and shooting association in South Africa with SAPS accreditation as a Hunting Association in terms of the Firearms Control Act. On this site, our members are provided with information about the new Firearms Control Act, how to relicense firearms, how to get a gundog puppy, how to set about training it, who's who in wingshooting, how to become a 'Dedicated Hunter' and much more. Each quarter, the 'Wingshooter' glossy magazine features the most important fixtures on the bird hunting and lists many exclusive shooting venues which have been secured for members only. Hot news and current events and more details of private shooting venues for members are reported on in the Wingshooter eZine, which is e-mailed to members.

FIREARM LICENSING HELPLINE

What, where, when and how

SA Wingshooters established a Helpline to assist our members with the relicensing of their firearms and the new licensing of firearms. See more details under the section Renewals click here, then contact our office for specific advice. Please also see our special advisory page click here on how to apply for a licence, what to do with firearms in a deceased estate, how to apply for handguns and more.

If you have not yet applied for renewal of your firearm licences, your now have a serious problem! According to the Firearms Control Act, from 1st July 2009 the licences of all firearms which were not renewed or for which renewal were not applied for, are invalid and those firearms must have been handed in to the Police or handed over to the ownership of a gunsmith.

Meanwhile, two separate legal actions are currently before the courts regarding the consitutional validity of certain aspects of the Act and the payment of compensation for firearms which are surrendered in terms of the Act. Members will be kept up to date on developments.

All firearms for which application has been made for renewal of the licences, will be legal if proof is produced that the application for renewal of the licences had indeed been made (SAPS 523: Acknowledgement of Receipt of Firearm Documentation) or at least the payment receipt.
